"Who edits the photos and how exactly are they altered?"
I do the editing myself and never outsource files to an image editing company without a client permission. I am completely self-taught regarding my editing skills. I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CC with purchased and custom designed presets, plug-ins and actions to speed up my workflow. Portraits are edited to enhance the clarity of the eyes, soften the skin and remove blemishes, whiten teeth, remove flyaway hair strands, subtly reduce weight or increase/decrease bust as requested and so much more such as toning, brightness and other typical edits. I will gladly alter anything or touch nothing at client's request. I have great respect for the images of clients. There is a certain intimacy involved with hours staring into the soul of a client while editing and I do not ever rush the process. For example, multiple pimples on the face or pet hair on clothes is removed by hand which is time consuming. Nature photography is edited to improve the contrast, saturation and clarity of the scene. Product photography is enhanced to remove dust and present a more refined product. Some editing such as with digital manipulations is more extreme and can be seen in my galleries. This should give you a general idea of what is involved, but if you have any questions, I am always here to provide an answer. I also have before and after photos that I can share with you and provide photo restoration and editing services for an affordable fee.
