Review of Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care Razor and Skintimate Skin Therapy Shave Gel
Sensitive skin? I know mine is. Razors are sometimes a pain. Wouldn't it be nice to find one that actually hydrates and provides smooth skin? Keep reading for the review of Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care (wait until you see the skin guards!) and Skintimate Skin Therapy Shave Gel. Both products compliments of BzzAgent!
Oh what torture is dry skin during the winter. It's ugly. It's painful. It can be so frustrating to endure the burning pain of razor burn from a shave too close on already dry, scaly skin. So what can a lady do in the winter to ensure her legs are still fabulous enough to entice a lover deep in winter hibernation? What about a way to spend less time in the shower or bath while shaving?
For me, the answer arrived in a cardboard box compliments of BzzAgent. Although I felt that a razor campaign totally belonged in the summer, I was of course not going to complain. I mean, who doesn't love free stuff right? Anyway, my package arrived as promised and I had no idea just how perfectly timed and generous this campaign was! Inside my box was the Schick Hydro Silk Razor, two extra blade refills, a protective cap with hole for hanging, a coupon for a free full-size Skintimate Shave Gel or shave Creme and four $4 off coupons to share! When I visited my local Wal-mart to use my Skintimate freebie coupon, I saw that this razor was $7.97 or $14.97 for 5 refills and the Skintimate Shave gel was $2.64 which was pretty decent prices.
I took a quick moment to photograph my items for this review and I most noticed the skin guards built into each of the 5 blades and the white dots of skin comforting hypoallergenic moisturizing serum infused with shea butter. These little dots of moisturization have been dermatologist tested to be acceptable to use on most skin types, even sensitive skin. I was so excited and curious to try this new razor mostly because of the cool looking skin guards!
Doesn't this razor look stylish? Totally fitting for the Hydro Silk to be surrounded by H20!
How cool are these skin guards?? I'd love to see how they're made...so tiny!
I then allowed my legs to grow hair naturally for about a week. Nothing says winter quite like furry legs. Of course, I've the legs of an abominable for they are so white they could blind you in the sun! So it's hard to visualize just how fuzzy (and dry) they were for the review. Here's a photo to prove it!
My legs are so white...I hope I'm not blinding anyone. Ugly dry winter legs, about to be transformed!
I've always been one of those ladies to use a man's razor. For me, it's always been Gillette's Mach 3. The razor provides a closer shave without irritation than any feminine razor I'd tried. I'm really picky about having a close shave without it growing back in 20 minutes! Plus, the head is the perfect discreet size for grooming even the most delicate areas. My Husband was happy that I might have finally found a ladies razor, but I was still skeptical. It's always hard to move on...especially when you've already found a product that works well. Why mess with a routine or personal favorites?
Finally it was time to test the Schick Hydro Silk for this review. Eagerly, I proceeded to 'suffer' through a luxurious bubble bath with candles and...
wait, I'm supposed to be shaving for this review right? Ha!
Anyway, after a few moments relaxation, I raised a leg and took one stroke on wet skin on one leg and another on Skintimate Shave Gel on the other. Both strokes removed nearly equal amounts of hair, but Skintimate provided a more effective shave. The smell of both products was very subtle which is important to me as I have issues with fragrances. Or I should be more clear and say my nose and allergies have issues. Anyway, I completed my shave and allowed my legs to dry naturally. The results were smooth, silky and sexy legs. Hair was gone. Irritation and razor burn was totally void from this luxurious shave experience. Awesome right? The only catch was my legs were still very dry. I found that after a couple more times usage, my legs seemed to be more moist and better adapted to the razor. Most important of all was the absence of irritation despite the dryness.
Shaving with the Schick Hydro Silk. One swipe is all it takes.
As for the design, the handle was easy to hold with minimal risk of slipping. I was so pleased it wasn't a girly pink either! The skin guards on the blades truly do make a difference. I can finally shave my knees without phobia. Since this razor has 5 blades and a wider head, I can shave faster too. These blades are magically 'curve sensing'. Supported individually, they move independently allowing the razor to safely shave risky areas such as knees. They're also held safely inside a rounded razor head rather than a pointy rectangle as with most razors. However, this razor doesn't easily replace my preferred Gillette Mach 3 for the more 'intimate' grooming. The head is a bit wide to be safely used, but it is possible for those with acrobatic flexibility or who desire the adrenaline rush of potentially being cut by a razor. Seriously though, it's possible so try it for yourself.
Purple is my favorite color. Loving the packaging design and how therapeutic Skintimate is!
The luxurious lather created by the Skintimate 'Skin Therapy' moisturizing shave gel is the soulmate for this razor. This lovely stuff is 'lotionized' via a magical secret formula which includes vitamin E! Skintimate's Shave Gel is soft and comforting. A magical, thick pink foam. Just a small amount easily covers alot of epidermis without being too thin or too thick. There's no runs or drips if applied properly and it works well regardless of which part of your anatomy has a shaving requirement. I'd not purchased any for several years. Honestly, not since high school. My skin had gotten used to quick shaves in the shower with conditioner. Could be self-inflicted dryness due to laziness.
It's so thick! Magically, just a small amount transforms into the perfect leg protecting shave cream.
Overall, I totally adore this razor and recommend you try it. I'll have to see if my review changes this summer, but for right now I'm loving the way it shaves twice as fast without irritation and of course like the thoughtful design. The razor's amazingly gentle, yet thoroughness is enhanced by the Skintimate shave gel which provides additional moisturization and security for dry and sensitive skin. Although not all will require the shave gel for a close shave, this razor has definitely been a worthy opponent for my former razor and came out victorious. Hello to silky smooth and sexy legs!
