For quite some time, a beautiful male cardinal has been arriving at my window, around the same time, early every morning. It pecks on my glass as if to say "hello". I smile and quickly sneak a peek out my curtains when I hear it. In that moment, I am as excited as a child.

Of course, science tells us that it is actually just seeing its reflection as another male and so is fighting the rival. I prefer to think that this beautiful cardinal is a familiar friend, eagerly greeting me every morning like nature's alarm clock. Who needs a rooster when they have a cardinal?

I am proud of this photo. It may be only one, but it was one that was created after weeks of observing and patiently attempting to finally capture an image of my cardinal friend. I am saddened knowing it will one day leave, but through the magic of photography, I'll always have a photo.
